There are times in our lives when God refines our faith in the fire of His love. In the process, our human flaws and weaknesses are purged. In times of unknowing, we must lean on our faith to keep us on the sure path of God’s will. Though the purging is spiritual in nature, a human trial may be one of the vessels through which Jesus deigns to cleanse us:

“Even though for a short time yet you must bear all sorts of trials; so that the worth of your faith, more valuable than gold, which is perishable even if it has been tested by fire, may be proved — to your praise and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed” (1 Peter 6-7).

When we are struggling emotionally, spiritually and/or physically, we ought to remember when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane. The agony that preceded His passion set Him on a lonely journey to the cross. He cried out to the Lord from His human nature for  guidance and protection for Him to fulfill the Father’s will to save all humankind from their sins, so as to bridge the divide created when Adam and Eve sinned.

And so, no matter what comes our way, we must hold firm to our faith in Christ. Our trials may be minute or grand in scale, yet we are never alone, for the Holy Spirit dwells within our very beings. Moreover, we may call upon the Lord to send down angels to protect us during our trials and as we continue to walk on the path He has chosen for each one of us. Our faith and trust in God will see us through the darkness into the dawn of a new day:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely; In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
